A gyudon beef rice bowl, the signature dish of Singapore donburi chains

Singapore has far more donburi chains than most people realise. Some sell a beef bowl for under five dollars, others sell a hitsumabushi for over thirty. This guide puts fifteen of them side by side, using each chain's own site where one exists and recent reviews where it does not, so you can pick by price, topping or halal status before you queue.

The chains at a glance

Outlet counts are what each chain's official site listed in October 2026. Price bands follow our directory: $ is a typical bowl under $12, $$ is $12 to $25 and $$$ is over $25. A "++" means service charge and GST are added to the price shown.

"Not certified" means we found no halal certificate for the chain. It does not mean the food is unsafe for anyone, only that you should not assume it is halal. Our halal donburi guide lists the certified and pork free options outlet by outlet.

How we read the prices

Each price comes from the source named in our records, and the sources differ. Sukiya, Kei Kaisendon, Tenya, Aburi-EN and Omote publish dine in menus on their own sites. Yoshinoya's menu does not say whether GST or service charge is included. Gochi-So Shokudo, Unagiya Ichinoji and Tora-San only publish online ordering menus, which can be higher than dine in. Butahage, Tendon Kohaku and Man Man Unagi rely on third party reviews that are a year or more old, so we mark them as such. Chains with no usable menu, such as Kogane Yama, are marked "no published 2026 price list" rather than guessed.

Beef bowls: the budget end

Sukiya

Sukiya calls itself Japan's largest gyudon chain. It opened at Suntec City in February 2021 and now lists 29 outlets, several open 24 hours. A medium gyudon is $4.90 and the toppings, from kimchi to melted cheese, top out at $7.50. Prices include GST with no service charge, and the chain is MUIS certified.

Yoshinoya

Yoshinoya traces its start to 1899 in Tokyo and began in Singapore in 1997 at Ngee Ann City. All 15 outlets on its site are MUIS certified. A regular gyudon is $6.50, and the unagi bowls run from $13.40 to $16.90.

Seafood bowls

Kei Kaisendon

Kei is a Singapore founded brand that began in 2017 and lists 23 outlets, mostly in malls. The signature is mixed sashimi cubes with ikura, $18.90++ at regular size and $14.90++ small. Most bowls cost $19 to $29 before service charge and GST, and availability can vary by outlet.

Omote

Omote began at Thomson Plaza and took its current name in December 2018. Its March 2026 menu has chirashi from $18.80 to $38.80 and cooked bowls from $15.80. It lists two outlets, the Thomson Plaza flagship and a Special Edition outlet at Lentor Modern.

Tora-San

Tora-San is a chirashi and donburi restaurant on level 3 of The Centrepoint on Orchard Road, reviewed by Daniel Food Diary in July 2024. A second outlet at United Square in Novena opened in August 2025. Its online menu runs from $12.90 for a charcoal teriyaki chicken don to $39.90 for the premium chirashi, and it marks the Una Tama Don as its number one seller.

Tempura bowls

Tempura Tendon Tenya

Tenya started in Tokyo in 1989 and opened in Singapore at Orchard Central on 15 October 2020. It now has four outlets: Orchard Central, ION Orchard, Parkway Parade and Hillion Mall. Bowls run from about $10 to $17 before service charge and GST, with the Tenya Tendon at $10.60++.

Tendon Kohaku

Kohaku's Singapore story began at Suntec City in 2016, and its official site now lists one tendon outlet at Clarke Quay Central plus the Kohaku Sabo teahouse at Chinatown Point. There is no official price list. A 2025 review put the Kohaku Tendon at $14.80++, so confirm at the counter.

Kogane Yama

Kogane Yama opened at Bugis Junction in June 2017 and lets diners build tempura bowls by choosing toppings, a rice, soba or udon base and a spice level. Only the Bugis Junction outlet could be confirmed in October 2026. There is no published 2026 price list; older reviews suggest roughly $14 to $23 before service charge.

Eel bowls

Unatoto

Unatoto grills eel over charcoal and opened at Guoco Tower on 25 January 2023, then Velocity@Novena Square on 11 December 2023. Unagi don starts at $9.50++, and the menu also covers hitsumabushi, gyudon, ebi tempura don and kaisen don. It is not halal certified.

Unagiya Ichinoji

Unagiya Ichinoji opened at Robertson Quay in April 2018 and is known for Nagoya style hitsumabushi. Its only published prices are online ordering prices, such as $37.14 for the unagi hitsumabushi, and those run higher than dine in.

Man Man Unagi

Man Man opened on Keong Saik Road in 2016 and won a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2017. A second outlet is listed at The Central near Clarke Quay, and the Keong Saik outlet appears renamed Unagi Tei. It has no official menu we could find; a guide from about 2025 puts the regular hitsumabushi at $29.50++ and the premium at $36.60++, so treat those as unconfirmed for 2026.

Pork and grill bowls

Aburi-EN

Aburi-EN is an EN Group concept built on flame seared meats, with 11 outlets open daily from 11am to 10pm. The Buta Don is $14.90++, and bowls range from about $12 to $36 before GST and service charge, with most under $23.

Butahage

Butahage comes from Obihiro in Hokkaido and returned to Singapore in 2023 at Suntec City, followed by Century Square and Pasir Ris Mall. The newest prices we found are from 2023 to 2024, when a regular pork loin don cost about $12 to $20 before service charge, so treat them as a guide only.

Gochi-So Shokudo

Gochi-So Shokudo serves charcoal grilled Iberico pork over rice and has traded here since at least 2017. The Iberico Pork Jowl Don is $21.90 on the online menu. A December 2025 listing shows about 14 mall outlets, though no official outlet page could be reached.

Tanuki Raw

Tanuki Raw is a modern Japanese restaurant and bar from the nice work group. Its truffle yakiniku donburi, first served in 2015, is $22.90++, and weekday lunch bowls are $12.90. Its official site lists one outlet, at Orchard Central.

How to choose

A few other rules of thumb come straight from the data. Sukiya says several of its outlets stay open 24 hours, and its AMK Hub outlet opens at 8am. Sukiya and Yoshinoya are the only two chains in this guide with MUIS certification, so they are the place to start for a halal meal, although you should still check the certificate displayed at the outlet. Names with only one or two outlets, such as Tora-San, Tanuki Raw and Unagiya Ichinoji, are closer to restaurants than chains, and their prices reflect that. Finally, remember that Kei Kaisendon, Tenya, Unatoto and Aburi-EN quote prices before service charge and GST. At 10 percent service charge and 9 percent GST, a $14.90++ bowl comes to about $17.90.

For the lowest price, start with gyudon at Sukiya or Yoshinoya. For raw fish, look at kaisen don and our chirashi versus kaisendon explainer. For crisp batter, see tendon, and for charcoal eel, unagi don. If cost is the deciding factor, our list of bowls under $12 ranks them, and the full chain directory shows every open outlet.
